Journalists covering an HIV/AIDS workshop for Swazi parliamentarians were on 30 June kicked out of an HIV-AIDS workshop after Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators expressed displeasure at their presence.

Namibia: Opposition call for referendum on proposed snooping law
Namibian opposition legislators on 29 June called for the government to hold a referendum on the proposed communications bill which contains clauses allowing the state to spy on its citizens. Opposition legislators say they are far less convinced that the Communications Bill, and particularly the section calling for the setting up of interception centers, is right or justified in a post-independent Namibia.

Zimbabwe: Ministry in volte face over successful application by journalists
The Minister of Media, Information and Publicity Webster Shamu, and his permanent secretary George Charamba are reportedly challenging a High Court interim judgment which declared the state-controlled Media and Information Commision (MIC) defunct and allowed four freelance journalists to cover the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa summit held in May 2009 without MIC accreditation cards.

Zimbabwe: Judge postpones application by freelance photojournalist
High Court judge Justice Hungwe on 29 June 2009 postponed to 1 July 2009 an application for referral to the Supreme Court by freelance photojournalist Andrisson Manyere challenging the infringement of his constitutional rights after the state counsel requested for more time to enable it to file a response to the application.
